This book is about how an orphan was left on the church floor, and got the name Ram Mohammad Thomas. He was then arrested for being accused of cheating on a game show called, "Who Will Win A Billion" (also knows as Who wants to be a millionaire in America) by having every answer correct. As he was being asked questions by his lawyer he explained how he got every question correct by living in the slums of India. All the questions were randomly based on his experiences. The people who made the game had not known about his knowledge of India that he knew with his experiences.
Connections:
Reading this book made me think of when I was in India for the summer vacation. I was in the "dirty part" of India. Where you could go out on the street, and see a whole bunch of people just walking in muddy water on the ground, not even caring. As well as how we don't need everything perfect in life, and to appreciate the smaller things in life. Especially not to beg for things you know you can't get.
To The Classroom: The book showed me, how Ram could learn all of the information needed on the show, just by living in the slums. He didn't need to go to school, but he had a person taking care of him at the church to be his tutor.
To The Home: Ram never had a real home, he was adopted since he was born. He was first dropped off at a church. Some people decided that the person at the church was to take care of him. Giving him shelter, food, and a better life.
To The community: Ram had been very popular to the locals in India. He was knows for the person who cheated on live television. Of course they later found out he didn't cheat, but the rumors spread fast, and everyone knew about him in a matter of days. It was on the news, in the newspapers, it was the biggest topic at the moment.
To Me: Slumdog Millionaire kind of had an impact on me. It showed and taught me, about the values of life, and how you don't need everything to be perfect in the beginning, to have a happy ending.
