This story begins with Tally complaining about not being pretty. She tells how two of her friends Peris is already pretty. After she tells how badly she wants to become pretty as well, her friend tell her how its not as good as it seems. As she rebels against becoming pretty, her friends continue telling her how horrible it is, and how if she turns pretty, It's not only her looks that change, its also her personality. Connections:
Yo the classroom texts: the book reminded me of The Giver, which is also based on a society that had rules. in the giver they had more rules, but in this book, it was just that one rule that everyone who turned sixteen had to obey.
To the classroom:
the book reminded me of how a classroom has rules.
every class has different rules, just like how this society has a rule that all sixteen yearolds must turn pretty.
To the home:
the reason people decided to be turned pretty, was to show how they have aged. for example some people celebrate quincenera, or bar and bat mitzvahs. the way the uglies do it, is by turning pretty
To the world:
this book takes place in the future, after most of the community had been set into chaos.
To me:
before reading this book, i thought it wouldve just been about snobby pretty girls. obviously it had a way different meaning.
